Fashion trends are often cyclical, and that goes for jewelry fashion trends, as well. A century ago, the Roaring 1920s had begun, and the jewelry fashion trend at hand was Art Deco. We believe these gorgeous Art Deco jewelry trends are as much in style now in 2020 as they were 100 years ago.
Here are some of the Art Deco trends we saw in jewelry of this time and that are still popular today.

- DIAMONDS: During this period, we see the appearance of fancy-shaped step cuts, as well as other unusual shapes like half-moon cuts, kite-shaped cuts, trapezoid cuts and more.
- GEMSTONES: Prior to this time period, jewelry often utilized primarily diamonds or a single gemstone; colors weren’t often mixed and ornamental stones weren’t typically used. This changed, however, in the Art Deco period as jewelry started to use a mixture of gemstones and ornamental stones like jade, onyx, carnelian, and coral, making pieces much more colorful.
- METALS: The precious metal of choice for designers of the time was often platinum.
- DESIGNS: Architectural design flair and influence from the Egyptian culture and from the finds of the Tutankhamen grave, especially in Cartier art deco jewelry designs.
